Senior Hamas official Ezzat al-Resheq has strongly denounced US president Donald Trump for denying there is famine in the Gaza Strip and blatantly regurgitating Israeli premier Benjamin Netanyahu’s claims and lies.
“Trump’s remarks provide further cover for the occupation government to persist in its war of extermination and starvation against the Palestinian people,” Resheq said in a statement on Sunday.
Resheq accused Trump of ignoring reports issued by the UN and international organizations over Gaza and dozens of children who died from hunger due to the Israeli siege and starvation campaign.
The Hamas official also condemned the US accusations about his Movement’s involvement in aid thefts in Gaza as “baseless claims that have no evidence,” saying such claims were rebutted recently by an internal investigation conducted by the US Agency for International Development (USAID).
“The occupation is the one inciting chaos, lawlessness and aid thefts through deliberately targeting police personnel assigned to protect aid trucks, leaving them vulnerable to looting by gangs that are directly supported by its army,” he said.
He called on the US administration to stop parroting the Israeli occupation’s debunked propaganda and lies, to prioritize humanitarian values and principles, and to shoulder its moral and humanitarian responsibilities regarding Israel’s ongoing siege, starvation and systematic massacres in Gaza.
