The Iranian Foreign Ministry’s spokesman strongly condemned the Israeli military attacks that have targeted Syria in the past days, expressing concern over the recent clashes in the Suwayda region which have killed dozens of civilians.

In a statement on Tuesday, Esmaeil Baqaei touched upon the ongoing military aggressions by the Zionist regime against Syria’s territorial integrity, which have occurred alongside its continued occupation of significant parts of the Syrian territory.

He described the persistent inaction of the United Nations Security Council in response to the regime’s acts of aggression against regional countries as highly dangerous and a major factor in emboldening the occupying regime, the Foreign Ministry’s website reported.

Baqaei emphasized the urgent need for regional countries and the Islamic world to address and halt the Zionist regime’s continued lawlessness and crimes, including its unprecedented genocide in Gaza and repeated aggressions against Syria and Lebanon.

He also underscored the international community’s responsibility to prevent the continued gross violations of international law and the UN Charter.

The Israeli regime launched air strikes on Suwayda in southern Syria on Wednesday, as fighting returned to the predominantly Druze city hours after the Syrian government declared a ceasefire.

The Syrian Ministry of Interior said in a statement on Tuesday that armed groups had resumed attacks on Syrian government forces with support from the Israeli air force.

Syria condemned Israel’s intervention as a violation of international law, while Druze Sheikh Hikmat al-Hajri said in a statement that it was Syrian government troops who breached a truce announced earlier in the day.

The Israeli air attacks came after Hikmat al-Hajri urged local fighters to confront what he described as a barbaric attack from government forces.

The Israeli regime has claimed its attacks on the southern Syrian region are meant to protect the Druze minority, which it sees as potential allies.
