Araqchi to Tajik president: Iran is determined to deepen bilateral ties

The top Iranian diplomat arrived in Dushanbe, the capital city of Tajikistan, to pay a one-day visit to the Central Asian country.

Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi says Iran is determined to use its commonalities with Tajikistan to deepen bilateral ties in diplomatic, economic, cultural, and other fields.

Araqchi made the remarks during a meeting with Tajikistan’s President Emomali Rahmon in Dushanbe on Wednesday, after arriving in the Tajik capital earlier in the day.

Highlighting the deep bonds of friendship and understanding between the Iranian and Tajik peoples, especially their shared language, heritage, civilization, history, and culture, Araqchi emphasized that the Islamic Republic of Iran is committed to making the most of these unique and valuable commonalities to further strengthen relations in economic, commercial, diplomatic, and cultural-educational spheres, among others.

He also conveyed warm greetings from Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei and President Masoud Pezeshkian to the president and people of Tajikistan.

For his part, President Rahmon described Tehran-Dushanbe relations as special ties rooted in a deep historical friendship, and stressed the importance of further promoting bilateral relations.

President Rahmon and Foreign Minister Araqchi also exchanged views on regional developments, including the situation in Central Asia, the Caucasus, Afghanistan, and West Asia.

Ismaeil Baqaei, spokesperson for Iran’s Foreign Ministry, is accompanying Araqchi during the one-day trip.

“This morning, alongside Foreign Minister Araqchi, we arrived in Dushanbe, the capital of Tajikistan, the land of our ethnically, linguistically, and emotionally kindred people,” said the spokesperson on his X account after they arrived in Dushanbe on Wednesday morning.

He said that the agenda for this one-day trip includes discussions with high-ranking Tajik officials on bilateral relations, as well as regional and international developments.
