Yemeni Defense Minister Nasser Ahmad and two senior security officers escaped unhurt when their convoy was ambushed on Friday in the country’s south, a military source said.

Ahmad, the intelligence chief and the head of military police were travelling from Abyan province to Shabwa province when they came under fire, the source said.

The ambush took place as Yemeni security forces pursue a major operation against Al-Qaeda-linked militants in the south.
