President Hassan Rouhani on Saturday accorded official welcome to his Venezuelan counterpart Nicolas Maduro at the Sa’dabad cultural complex in northern Tehran.
President Maduro arrived in Tehran Friday night on a day-long visit, his first ever visit, to discuss issues of mutual interest with Iranian officials.
The Venezuelan president is accompanied by ministers of foreign affairs, finance and economy, oil, social welfare and industries.
Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif and Oil Minister Bijan Namdar Zanganeh were also present in President Maduro’s welcoming ceremony.
The two presidents are to discuss major issues of mutual interests including the oil price drop in the international market.
Iran and Venezuela, both members of the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC), are against the oil price reduction as well as Saudi Arabia’s policies regarding the issue.
Venezuela is a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council as representative of the Latin American and Caribbean states.
