President Rouhani slams Israeli aggression

Iranian President Hassan Rouhani says the Israeli occupation and aggression is the main cause of all the problems in the Middle East.

In a Monday meeting with Lebanese Foreign Minister Gebran Bassil in the Iranian capital, Tehran, President Rouhani said that over the past 66 years the Zionist regime of Israel has continued aggression in the Middle East.

President Rouhani hailed the Lebanese and Palestinian nations for their resistance against the Israeli regime saying that unity, solidarity and cooperation among regional countries are the sole way to counter the issue of occupation and terrorism in the region.

The Tel Aviv regime has been pounding numerous sites inside the besieged Gaza Strip since July 8 killing more than 1,860 Palestinians and injuring over 9,500 others so far.

Rouhani further pointed to the recent wave of terrorist attacks in Lebanon and underlined the necessity for the Lebanese to remain vigilant in the face of enemy plots.

The Iranian President said the Islamic Republic supports any government and country that counters terrorism and occupation.

The Lebanese foreign minister, for his turn, said that resistance against Israel is the only way to restore the rights of the Palestinian nation.

He also praised the Islamic Republic for its role in the fight against Takfiri groups.

He expressed regret that certain regional countries have fueled religious discord and forgotten the threat of the Israeli regime.

Bassil was in Tehran to participate in a one-day foreign ministerial meeting of the Palestine Committee of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) to discuss ways to end Israeli brutalities against the Palestinian people.
