Over 230,000 People Affected by Floods in Northwest China

More than 230,000 people in Northwestern China were affected by flashfloods triggered by torrential rain.

Four people were killed in the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region and 3,800 were evacuated to safe areas, Voice of Russia reported.

The flooding hit 27 districts and destroyed or damaged over 1,250 homes and nearly 18,500 hectares of crops, the Xinhua news agency reports citing local officials.

Total losses exceed 278 million yuan (around $44.5 million).
