A military jet has crashed on a residential street in a southern California desert community, setting two homes on fire on Wednesday.
Marine Corps Corporal Melissa Lee said the pilot ejected safely and was taken to a hospital for evaluation. There was no word on whether anyone on the ground was hurt.
Witnesses stated that two houses caught fire after the crash in Imperial, near the US-Mexico border about 90 miles east of San Diego.
The jet was a Harrier from the Marine Corps air base in Yuma and Arizona, Lance Corporal Christopher Johns, a marine spokesman said.
