Iranian Supreme Leader’s senior advisor Ali Akbar Velayati warned that the Takfiri terrorist groups have been created and supported by certain states to taint the image of Islam.
Velayati made the remarks to FNA and on the sidelines of the World Congress on Extremist and Takfiri Movements in the Islamic Scholars’ View’, which is underway in the Holy City of Qom, Central Iran.
The Iranian Supreme Leader’s aide pointed to the plots hatched by the Takfiri terrorist groups, including the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL), to portray an unreal image of Islam and Islamic tenets, and said, “As the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution (Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei) has laid emphasis on the need for Muslim unity, the unity of Muslim scholars is vital for confronting Takfiri and radical thoughts and we hope this meeting could depict the fundamental steps needed to this end.”
He noted that over 300 scholars and thinkers of the Muslim world are attending ‘The World Congress on Extremist and Takfiri Movements in the Islamic Scholars’ View’ in Qom to work out ways to resist and confront radical and Takfiri streams through sharing their experiences and utilizing their capacities as well as interactions and exchanging views.
Velayati, who is also Secretary General of the International Forum for the Islamic Awakening, said his forum has been making the necessary arrangements for holding the World Congress on Extremism and Takfiri Movements for more than one year.
Iran has always attached crucial importance to paving the way for the enhancement of interaction and cooperation among Muslim nations in a bid to strengthen Muslim unity throughout the world. Holding the World Congress on Extremist and Takfiri Movements in the Islamic Scholars’ View is another effort in the same line by the Islamic Republic to forge unity among Shiite and Sunni Muslims.
Tens of senior Muslim clerics from across the world have taken part in the Congress in the holy city of Qom.
In June, the Supreme Leader underlined complexity of the plots hatched by the enemies who use any means, even Islamic appearance, to create rift among various sects in Islamic societies, including Iraq.
Addressing a group of Qur’an reciters, the Iran’s Supreme Leader said that “the enemies’ intelligence apparatus” plays a role in fueling civil conflicts in a number of Islamic communities.
Praising the deep level of insight of the Islamic Ummah, Ayatollah Khamenei underscored, “The enemies of Islam are afraid of this fact and try to confront Islam in the name of Islam and under the cover of Islam.”
Ayatollah Khamenei also highlighted the difference between American Islam and true Islam.
“The American Islam, despite having Islamic appearance and name, complies with despotism and Zionism… and totally serves the goals of despotism and the US,” stated the Leader.
