Iranian Police haul over 1 ton drugs, nab 4 thugs in SE Iran


Law enforcement units in Iran’s southeastern Sistan-Baluchestan Province seized 1.4 tons of illegal drugs and two machine guns, and arrested four smugglers, local police officials said on Sunday.

Saravan operational units together with Zahedan police were tipped of a heavy narcotics shipment in Iranshahr-Zahedan route, Sistan-Baluchestan police commander Brigadier Mohammad Ghanbari said.

Following the clues, police forces busted 4 smugglers and seized two cars after exchange of fire with the thugs, he said.

Police found 940 kg of opium, 141 kg of heroin and 370 kg of other drugs and also two AK-47 (Kalashnikov) assault rifles, he added.
