Iran Condemns US Airstrike on Syrian Army Convoy

Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Bahram Qassemi strongly condemned an airstrike by US aircraft on a convoy of Syrian army forces and said it was a blatant violation of the Arab country’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.

In a statement on Saturday evening, Qassemi said the attack by the US military was launched with the aim of tipping the balance of power in favor of terrorists in the battlefield.

He further denounced the airstrike as “a blatant violation of the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Syrian Arab Republic” as an independent country and a member of the United Nations.

The spokesman added that it proves Washington’s unilateralism in the international community and its disregard for intentionally recognized principles.

“The offensive has been carried out under a false pretext and with the aim of covering up the problems facing the American statesmen both at domestic and international arenas,” Qassemi noted.

According to unnamed US military officials, US fighter jets struck a convoy of 27 tanks heading towards a garrison in al-Tanf near the Jordanian border on Thursday.

A US official said the attack destroyed at least one tank and a bulldozer.
