A powerful blast and some shots were reported near Somalia’s parliament, while MPs were in session.
Initial reports said there were casualties in the explosion, said to have been caused by a car bomb, BBC reported.
“Ten people died when Al-Shabab militants targeted the parliament building six weeks ago,” the report said.
The militant group lost control of Mogadishu in 2011 and has since carried out several bombings and assassinations.
Earlier this week, a prominent MP, Ahmed Mohamud Hayd, was shot dead in the city, in a drive-by attack claimed by Al-Shabab.
