A powerful explosion has claimed the lives of at least 19 people and wounded 30 others in the eastern Pakistani city of Lahore, Press TV’s correspondent says.
Bomb blasts by militants are common in Pakistan, especially in tribal areas bordering Afghanistan. However, attacks in Lahore have become less frequent recently.
It was not immediately clear what caused the blast near a popular vegetable market in central Lahore on Monday.
“It is not yet confirmed if it is an incident of terrorism or an accidental explosion,” said Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan.
He added that most of the casualties were police officers and some bystanders.
A city of around ten million people, Lahore, the capital of Punjab Province, is Pakistan’s cultural hub.
